Meaning of Shin Kali
The name Shin Kali is derived from the Japanese term "Shingari" which refers to the sacrificial action taken by the samurai in protecting their lord during feudal times. When a castle was under siege by a greater and overwhelming force, a few warriors would volunteer in putting-up a last-ditch defense so that their lord, fellow warriors, and families could escape.
The name Shin Kali has come to represent more than just the name of our school. It signifies the warrior attitude, behavior, and spirit that we all must exude and abide by with each other and with the rest of society.

School Values
Bushido - As a martial art based in Japan, we continually strive to live up to the seven principles of the Code of Bushido, or the way of the warrior, which provides the values on how to act and behave in all aspects of our lives. Bushido was originally the warrior code of the samurai, and demanded loyalty, devotion, and honor to the death.
• Gi - Justice & Morality
• Yu - Courage
• Jin – Compassion
• Rei - Polite courtesy
• Makoto - Truth & Honesty
• Chugi - Duty & Loyalty
• Meiyo - Honor

FMA - In addition to the values of our host country, we also follow the values set forth by the foundation and principles of Filipino Martial Arts. Historically, members of a tribe, whether it was composed of one large family or multiple families living as one, cooperated to live and thrive as a community. Not just the warriors but all members of the tribe, including the women and children were taught the fighting ways of Kali to protect each other against other tribes and invaders. As such, the various systems were initially passed down only along the bloodlines to maintain the purity of the art and the integrity of its learnings.

It is with this history that we pursue the following values:
  • Community/Family - we are one, we are as strong as our weakest member.
  • Initiative - be first, do not wait to be told what to do, anticipate and achieve.
  • Integrity - be true to the learning, be true to yourself in spreading the technology properly.
  • Creative/Innovative - seek new ways in achieving results you desire, do not settle for just one way.
  • Bladed Hand - weapons are just tools and merely extensions of your self, the true weapon is you.
