ShinKali Academy Aspect of Training

ShinKali Academy is a Blade & Impact Weapons Training System; it has a wide variety of Training Methods aimed at developing a well rounded Martial Arts Practitioner for Combative and Self Defense Purposes.

There are Three Stages to obtain Mastery in ShinKali Academy System;

First Stage: Impact Training Program

Double Weapons Training using ShinKali Sticks using both hands will improve and prevent a "one sided practitioner". Training starts with "Doble Amarra" (playing with double sticks) to get familiar with the ShinKali Sticks. "Banigan" coordination Drills are added and the development is further refined through the mixture of Diagonal Strikes, Thrust and Circular Strikes. Once Familiarity has been obtain, Gunting, Kadena, Redonda and Kruzada are added to established the full fundamental of ShinKali Coordination Exercise

Double Weapons Techniques and principle are then translated to "Mano Mano" the Empty Hand Application of ShinKali Academy. It requires excellent control as no protective armor are worn. When practicing at this level, actual hits to the training partner are not necessarily, experienced practitioner will be quite capable of recognizing whether a line of attack has been opened or closed or successfully penetrated. The purpose of the practice is not to damage the training partner; it is the development of personal qualities of sophisticated practitioner, enabling the practitioner to deal with the actual attack and defense at close range at high speed, without the sacrifice of sensitivity, relaxation, deceptiveness or line awareness

Single Stick Training is then introduced after both hands are developed through Double Weapons Training. Training "Solo Baston Amarra" (playing with single stick) then goes to "Bila-o the continuous Striking techniques of ShinKali Academy namely

Figura Ocho, Sungkite, Rompida, Banda Y Banda and Arco. The Counter Strikes start with combination three strikes to "Largada"or "Herada" (Multiple Strikes Response)

Dikitan or close range training is then added for sensitivity, range, body coordination, Zoning and footwork. ShinKali Academy always preferred the "AGOS" (the Flow) Agos is a dynamic two person drills, initially developing the ability to flow smoothly between the attacks and defenses. Thus developing timing, reflexes, distance appreciation and body coordination. A sense of judging distance and the use of body mechanics to increase striking power, should already been develop through Double Sticks training and now adapted to Empty Hand Skills. Un-Armed responses will then progress to "Hantikan" (a combination of Mano Mano, Dumog, and Silat)

Second Stage: Blade Training

A serious encounter with a knife will not last very long, although fitness may vary well be important for other reasons, it does not tend to be one of the attributes required to deal with the knife attack. The training is this area therefore concentrates on developing appropriate reflexes, awareness and zoning skills.

ShinKali Academy framework for basic learning uses a system of Angles of attacks and start with the fundamental type of attacks –"Slash & Thrust" The Practitioner is taught defensive movements, without which any counter will be ineffective. It is necessary to have a safe training structure within which to be overcome the natural reluctance to close with an armed attacker. Next important point is to instill the Principle of obtaining control of the person holding the knife

Tres Methodos Balaraw (3 Knife Principle) are the training principle use by ShinKali Practitioners.

Sparring -Once the Fundamental of ShinKali Academy’s Blade and Impact Training Skills have been acquired, the First Level of Sparring is introduce, a light control sparring for safety. Initially the emphasis is on acquiring defensive skills, using both blocking and simple straight or circular evasive movements. The Second Level of Sparring requires the reflexes to use timing at reaction in Largo (long) and Medio (medium) Corto (close) range. It requires a high degree of relaxed sensitivity (without it…it will not work) greater subtlety of deceptiveness (set-up, feints, in-direct attack) and High Awareness of line familiarization (with rapid opening and closing of potential lines of attack)

Third Stage: Healing Art

The Third and the highest art of ShinKali Academy is the Traditional Healing Art of the Philippines . Hilot has been practice in the Philippines for many many years. Due to Secrecy of the Arts, it’s very rare to find a Hilot Master teach his Art. Hilot are passed only to family members and relatives through hands on practice or inherited from their forefathers, passing the art from one generation to the next. There many words use to refer to the healers "Manghihilot", "Albularyo" "Manghahagod

Many Filipino Martial Arts Grand Masters believe that this practice is the highest Art of Filipino Martial Arts.

ShinKali Academy ’s ultimate combative effectiveness is obtained through a combination of simplicity and directness with subtlety of deceptiveness and as in all Martial Arts Discipline, the appropriate mental attitude. ShinKali practitioners are always

Discovering something new, and finding its technical variety an endless source of fascination and enjoyment…….

"mind is the best weapon, deception is the best techniques, and power comes from within"…..Shihan Abner Anievas
